Pilea hitchcockii originates from the northwest of Ecuador. It grows there in the mountains, at altitudes of 1200 to 2400 meters in the cool-temperate mountain rainforest, mostly epiphytic. The leaves are completely metallic silver, elongated and have a serrated edge. They are reddish from below.
