The Rabbit's Foot Fern is a gorgeous tropical fern known for its delicate, lacy foliage and, most importantly, its unusual furry rhizomes that grow over the surface of the soil and spill over the edges of the pot.
Those fuzzy, brown rhizomes look remarkably like little rabbit feet — which is where it gets its name!
One of its best features: Unlike many ferns, it has a creeping growth habit, making it beautiful in hanging baskets or decorative planters where its furry rhizomes can be seen.
Light: Bright, indirect light. Avoid direct sunlight.
Water: Keep soil consistently moist but not soggy. Allow the top layer to dry slightly between watering.
Humidity: Prefers higher humidity (50–70%).
Temperature: 18–26°C. Avoid cold drafts.
Soil: Light, airy, well-draining potting mix.
Fertilizer: Feed monthly during spring and summer with a diluted, balanced liquid fertilizer.
Growth: Moderate-growing fern with spreading, fuzzy rhizomes.
Pruning: Remove brown or dead fronds as needed.
Repotting: Every 2–3 years or when rootbound.
Propagation: Divide rhizomes with attached roots and fronds.
Important care tips:
Never bury the fuzzy rabbit-foot rhizomes! Keep them exposed on the soil surface.
Avoid letting the soil completely dry out.
Don't allow water to sit in the bottom of the pot.
Generally considered non-toxic to cats and dogs.
